Coromandel Café
₹₹₹ Upscale · 8, Romain Rolland Street, White Town
The most famous café in Pondicherry. Garden setting, full menu from breakfast to dinner, and the kind of place where visitors end up spending half a day without meaning to.
Coromandel Café has the reputation and, mostly, the food to back it up. It sits in a shaded garden in the French Quarter and serves a menu wide enough to cover almost any mood: eggs benedict and bagels for breakfast, French pastries through the morning, Italian pizza and steaks in the evening.
Wine and cocktails are available throughout the day, which partly explains why tables get so occupied for so long. The atmosphere is relaxed, international, and slightly self-conscious about being the place everyone recommends.
Come for breakfast or early lunch if you want the quieter version. By late morning it fills up and stays full.
Must Order
- Eggs benedict (breakfast)
- Thin-crust pizza (dinner)
- House cocktail
Tip: Book ahead for dinner on weekends. Breakfast is the easiest time to walk in without a wait.
Hours: Open daily from breakfast through late dinner
